I was scrolling social media one day (about a year ago now), and an ad popped up for blue light filtering glasses. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I hadn’t.
At the time, I had very dry eye and kept getting headaches in the afternoons. I have 2 computer monitors at work and come home to either check in on social media on my phone, work at my computer, or catch up on our tv shows with my husband. A lot of screen time.
The Facebook ad I originally saw was Felix Grays, but I didn’t want to fork over the $95 before I did some research of my own.
Unfortunately, there are limited studies out there on the damaging effects of blue light since most technology is so new. The few studies I did find found linkages to headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, and sleep disruption. It’s also known that staring at screens causes you to blink less than you should/would normally. I also brought it up to my Ophthalmologist. He suggested I take a 20 second break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away (I heard that one before when I was binge reading Harry Potter as a kid). Realistically, I work in a cubicle. What am I going to stare at? Do I get up and walk around every 20 minutes? My boss might not like that. I decided to buy the glasses.
After all, Felix Gray has a 30-day free return policy.
I notice a huge difference when I wear them. Headaches, gone. They are also very cute + stylish and feel lightweight.
I have the Felix Gray “Roebling” in Sazerac Crystal – named after boss babe, Emily Roebling (I would be lying if I said that did not help sway me to choose this pair).
If you’re hesitant or want to test out a cheaper option, below are a few of my favorites from Amazon with great reviews!
If you’ve tried blue light filtering glasses, I’d love to hear your experience in the comments!
